This Japanese indigo blue dinnerware collection features traditional tobikanna (flying plane) pattern faithfully recreated using modern pad printing technology. Tobikanna, also called chattering, is a decorative ceramics technique. As clay is turned on a potter's wheel, a flexible piece of metal called a plane is lightly skipped over the clay to create an engraved pattern. This technique requires a high level of skill, as the pattern is easily affected by the tool, the moisture content of the clay, and the speed at which the wheel is turned.

Tobikanna Indigo Blue Series.

Unlike hand-carved versions, this printed design offers the visual charm of traditional techniques at a more accessible price point — ideal for both everyday use and gift-giving. Perfect for udon, soba, katsudon, tendon, and other classic Japanese donburi dishes. Modern blue-and-white dinnerware for everyone. Material: ceramic. Microwave and dishwasher safe. Made in Japan. Please note: The color varies in contrast. There may be some imperfections such as scratches, dents, black dots, pinholes, bumps, color/shape differences and weight. The actual color of the product may look different depending on your monitor setting and lighting of the room.
