What makes this teapot different from a regular teapot is the beautifully dyed large polka dot pattern. Polka-dot tableware was produced in large numbers during the period of rapid economic growth around 1965, but the amount of production gradually decreased due to the labor involved in hand-carving the polka-dot patterns one by one. Currently, only Soesen Seitosho, the kiln that produces the Hizen Yoshida polka dot tableware, is the only one that handles polka dot tableware.

Mizutama means "polka dots" in Japanese. Synonymous with Hizen Yoshida ware, this pattern is attributed to white stones at the bottom of the Narutani River in the upper stream of Haguchi River running through Yoshida village. Mizutama teaware is now a staple and symbol for the Japanese dining table. Soesen Kiln craftsmen continue the traditional technique of hand making every part of the tea ware and hand-carving each piece to create the indented polka-dot design.
