Usagi (rabbit) in Japanese traditional motif has been popular with many people and is seen on various items such as tableware, kimono, obi and general merchandise. Rabbits only drive on forward and don’t step back, so they have been considered lucky as a symbol of advancement. Legends say that usagi pound mochi on the moon. People in East Asia have long seen the Moon Rabbit or Jade Rabbit as a symbol for the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is a celebration of the full moon and the fall harvest. Also, usagi is a representation of cleverness, self-devotion, prosperity, abundance, fertility, and longevity because of its ability to reproduce and build ancestry.
