APPETIZE STARTERS SET
Appetize Starters Set is designed by the Belgian designer Nedda El-Asmar. The inspiration of the cutlery’s form is borrowed from the oval and clear shape of Japanese tea plant leaf. Nedda El-Asmar puts great emphasis on cutlery having a function, which must fit well in the hand, but at the same time must have a beautiful visual design and be inviting. Appetize meets all these requirements – and the name lends itself to delicious hors d’euvres and exciting starters. Appetize is fashioned from the highest quality stainless steel.
In 2006, Gense received the prestigious Swedish award “Formex – Formidable” for the cutlery design of Appetize. The criteria’s for the prize are that the product should be innovative, creative and commercial.
Nedda El-Asmar studied jewellery design and silversmithing at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Antwerp, and she completed her education at the Royal College of Art in London. She works for renowned names as Hermès, Puiforcat, Eternum, Gense, Villeroy & Boch, Robbe & Berking, Obumex, Vange, Demeyere and Carl Mertens. Since 2008, industrial designer Erik Indekeu is working with her.
Her designs have earned numerous awards and prizes. She was given the Sterckshofopdracht 1997, an annual assignment by the Silver Museum of Antwerp, and in the same year she won the Henry van de Velde Award for young talent. Nedda was proclaimed Belgian Designer of 2007, and in 2008 she was nominated for the second time for the ‘Talents du Luxe’. In January 2009, she received the prestigious bi-annual Flemish Cultural Award for Design 2008. Between 2007 and 2014 Nedda taught at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
